[Updated] The city of Pasadena closed East Colorado Boulevard between Marengo Avenue and Euclid Avenue on Saturday for the Pasadena Police Department’s 23rd annual Car Show, with additional street closures planned for Sunday and throughout June for FIFA Club World Cup events.
The police car show runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, featuring classic cars, hot rods and muscle cars. The free public event, sponsored by Thorson Motorcenter GMC BUICK, includes additional displays at City Hall and raises funds for the Pasadena Police Activities League and the Pasadena Police Explorer Post #19.
Beginning Sunday, the city will implement a series of closures on Holly Street between Raymond Avenue and Arroyo Parkway to support FIFA Club World Cup matches at Rose Bowl Stadium. The Holly Street restrictions will affect traffic on June 15, 17, 19, 21, 23 and 25.
Sunday and Monday FIFA-related closures will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., while Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Wednesday closures will last from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m.
City officials said the FIFA closures are necessary to ensure public safety and support event operations for the international soccer tournament in the Old Pasadena area.
For the ongoing FIFA closures, motorists should expect delays and plan alternative routes. Officials recommend using Walnut Street or Del Mar Boulevard for east-west travel, and Fair Oaks Avenue or Los Robles Avenue for north-south travel.
The city will enforce strict parking restrictions during FIFA closure hours. No on-street parking will be allowed on Holly Street, and temporary “No Parking — Tow Away” signs will be posted and enforced.
Officials thanked the community for patience as the city hosts both the local police fundraising event and prepares to welcome international visitors for the World Cup matches.
The first FIFA-related closure will occur Sunday, June 15, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Additional closures will take place Tuesday, June 17, from 2:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., and Thursday, June 19, from 2:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
Weekend restrictions continue Saturday, June 21, from 2:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. The schedule includes Monday, June 23, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and concludes Wednesday, June 25, from 2:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
The official notice from the City of Pasadena Public Agency identifies six total matches requiring the temporary street restrictions. The closures span nearly two weeks of tournament activity at the Rose Bowl Stadium.
