Katy Townsend, owner of Pasadena-based Katey’s Salon, has been elected as the President of the California Cosmetology Association Inc. (CCA) at the annual meeting of the organization held in June.
Townsend will replace outgoing President Madrid Johnson. Her one year term begins on August 27.
Townsend brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her new role. She obtained her cosmetology license from Pasadena City College and taught cosmetology at a school in Burbank for eight years.
Her salon has been operating at 1711 E. Washington Blvd in Pasadena for 25 years now.
“My expertise as being a cosmetologist and going to school to learn how to teach cosmetology, inspired me a lot to do better in everything I was doing,” Townsend said.
She said the key to business longevity is to treat the people right. “If you always treat people the way you want to be treated, everything will work out fine.”
As the new President of CCA, Townsend will prioritize boosting the membership and bringing back pre-pandemic activities of the association.
“I want to start all over again. Since the pandemic, we have lost a lot of members because we didn’t have a lot of meetings.”
“I just want to increase the membership and I want the students at the beauty colleges who enroll and take part in that.”
CCA is the largest professional cosmetology association that promotes, represents and legislatively protects the entire cosmetology industry, she indicated.
It brings people of diverse backgrounds within the beauty industry together providing opportunities and support for its members to grow professionally and personally through leadership, education, legislation and networking, according to its website.
