First United Methodist Church of Pasadena will host a post-election interfaith prayer vigil on Wednesday, November 6, bringing together diverse religious congregations for an hour of contemplative gathering.
Participating organizations include the Islamic Center of Southern California, First Congregational Church, First Presbyterian Church, Knox Presbyterian Church, Neighborhood Unitarian Universalist Church, and Throop Unitarian Universalist Church.
The event, scheduled from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on the Church’s Colorado Patio at 500 East Colorado Boulevard, will unite members from six local religious institutions.
The gathering follows a prayer authored by Bishop Kenneth H. Carter, Jr., which addresses national unity and acknowledges both America’s achievements and historical challenges.
In his prayer, Bishop Carter wrote: “We call to mind the best that is within us: That we live under God, that we are indivisible, that liberty and justice extend to all.”
The prayer calls upon divine intervention to “break down the walls of political partisanship, and make us one,” while acknowledging America’s complex history, including “the displacement of native peoples, racial injustice, economic inequity, regional separation.”
