The Pasadena City Council and the Pasadena Unified School District Board of Education will hold a special joint meeting on Monday, May 12, at 6:15 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chamber.
The meeting agenda includes discussions on the coordinated response and recovery efforts related to the Eaton Fire, a status update on the joint use of the Jefferson campus, and an update on affordable housing plans for Pasadena Unified School District faculty and staff, including a discussion of Assembly Bill 2295 and Senate Bill 35.
The District plans to use the site of the former Roosevelt Elementary School for a workforce housing project, aiming to improve staff retention and community integration.
The high price of housing has driven families with school-age children out of the District, causing a plunge in local Average Daily Attendance (ADA) funds.
The City currently leases the Jefferson campus to the City. This situation continues despite pleas from some local parents for the District to break the lease and place Longfellow students there while that campus undergoes renovations.
The Eaton Fire, which started in January 2025, damaged or destroyed five campuses within the Pasadena Unified School District. The affected schools included Eliot Arts Magnet Middle School, Franklin Elementary School, and three charter schools: Edison, Loma Alta, and Noyes.
Public comment is limited to items on this special meeting agenda.
