Pasadena CVS Stabbing Murder Case Returns to Court, Nearly Six Years Later

Nearly six years after a 30-year-old Altadena man was stabbed to death in a Pasadena CVS parking lot, the murder case against the man accused of killing him has yet to reach trial.

Enrique Real returns to Department F of the Pasadena Courthouse on Wednesday for another pretrial hearing — one of numerous court appearances since he was charged with murder in the death of Christopher Flores. Real, of Baldwin Park, was 19 at the time. He has been held in custody on $2.02 million bail since the night of the killing.

Flores was attacked around 8:14 p.m. on September 11, 2020, in the parking lot of the CVS pharmacy at 20 East Orange Grove Boulevard, at the intersection with Fair Oaks Avenue.

According to a Pasadena Police Department statement, the two men were walking through the parking lot when Real allegedly stabbed Flores multiple times.

Multiple witnesses called police after seeing the attack. Officers found Flores bleeding profusely on the ground and paramedics rushed him to Huntington Hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Real reportedly attempted to flee but was apprehended without incident a short distance from the scene after witnesses directed officers through a nearby alley.

Investigators allegedly recovered a bloodied knife and other evidence from the area, according to police.

The Pasadena Police Department said Flores and Real knew each other.

“The investigation revealed the victim and suspect knew each other, however, the motive for the stabbing of victim Flores requires further follow up by detectives,” Lt. Jesse Carrillo of the Pasadena Police Department said in a written statement at the time. No motive has been publicly disclosed.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office charged Real with one count of murder on September 16, 2020. He was arraigned at the Pasadena courthouse and has remained in continuous custody since his arrest.

Real is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The case is being prosecuted by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office.
