Pasadena Elks Lodge No. 672 will host a Flag Day Veterans Luncheon on Sunday, June 14, offering free admission to veterans for a program that includes a flag history presentation, music, and a U.S. flag retirement ceremony.
The luncheon, organized by the lodge’s Veterans Committee at 400 W. Colorado Blvd., falls on a Flag Day that lands inside the country’s Semiquincentennial year — the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, which arrives July 4, 2026. The lodge has titled the event “Honoring the Brave, Celebrating the Flag!” and is treating the date as a marker of the broader anniversary year.
Doors open at 11 a.m., with lunch served at 11:30 a.m., the program beginning at 12:30 p.m., and the flag retirement ceremony scheduled for 1:30 p.m., according to the lodge’s event flyer. The luncheon menu includes BBQ hamburgers, chicken breast, and hot dogs with all the fixings and classic side dishes.
Veterans attend at no cost. Non-veteran guests pay $20 per person.
The flag retirement ceremony is a formal observance in which worn or damaged U.S. flags are respectfully retired from service. It will close out the program after the meal, the flag history presentation, and the musical portion of the event.
The Pasadena lodge, established in 1901, has more than 1,000 members and is part of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. According to its Pasadena Chamber of Commerce directory listing, the lodge says it invests in programs that help children grow up healthy and drug free, meet the needs of today’s veterans, and improve quality of life.
Flag Day was established as a national observance by an act of Congress in 1949, and the date commemorates the Second Continental Congress’s adoption of the first U.S. flag on June 14, 1777, according to the Library of Congress. President Woodrow Wilson had first proclaimed a national Flag Day in 1916, more than three decades before Congress made the date official.
Guests must RSVP by Thursday, June 11. Reservations can be made online at flag-day-veterans-luncheon.cheddarup.com or by phone at 626-449-6010, ext. 1. The lodge has asked attendees to provide a name and party size when registering.
The Pasadena Elks Lodge sits along West Colorado Boulevard in central Pasadena. Sunday’s program is open to veterans, members, and guests who register by the deadline.
The next major Semiquincentennial milestone after the lodge’s program is the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence on July 4 — three weeks after the Flag Day luncheon.
