The Pasadena Fire Department will host its annual Fire Service Day on Saturday, offering residents an opportunity to learn about fire safety and meet local firefighters.
The free event aims to foster closer relationships between the community and firefighters while promoting fire safety awareness and education, according to fire officials.
“Come meet the Firefighters who serve our neighborhoods!” urged Councilmember Rick Cole in an email to his constituents: There will be live fire safety demonstrations to help you protect your home and family. Tour emergency vehicles, talk to the men and women who respond to fires and medical emergencies — and learn how $76 million of your tax dollars are being spent each year. Plus free hot dogs and beverages!”
The May 10, family-friendly event will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Jefferson Training Center, located at 1500 E. Villa St.
Attendees will witness various demonstrations, including auto extractions, “Get into Fire Gear” races, EMT demonstrations, fire nozzle reaction, fire extinguisher use, and sidewalk CPR.
The event comes months after the Eaton Canyon Fire struck Pasadena in January 2025, which affected as many as 10,000 of Pasadena Unified School District’s 14,000 students, with many staff members and families losing their homes.
The Fire Service Day will showcase the department’s public education programs, including the “Learn Not to Burn” program that targets children from preschool through sixth grade, teaching them how to prevent fires and respond to emergencies.
Visitors can also learn about CPR classes offered through the American Heart Association and American Red Cross, emphasizing the life-saving potential of hands-only CPR. Additionally, the Firefighters Association supports burn survivors through donations to Quest, highlighting the department’s commitment to community support beyond fire prevention.
During tours and presentations, Pasadena Fire Department personnel must remain in service and are subject to emergency calls, which might result in delays or cancellations of scheduled events.
