Pasadena Firefighters Local 809 has endorsed Victor Gordo for re-election as Mayor of Pasadena.
In a statement released Wednesday, the union said Gordo has been a “bold leader” on public safety issues.
“He has worked with us to prioritize investments in emergency response, firefighters, paramedics and public safety,” the statement said. “He is the best choice for Mayor and we are proud to endorse Victor Gordo’s re-election.”
Gordo has been Mayor of Pasadena since 2020. The influential labor union’s endorsement is a boost for Gordo’s re-election campaign.
The endorsement from the Pasadena firefighters is one in a series of high-profile endorsements recently announced by Gordo’s re-election campaign, including support from former Pasadena Mayor Bill Bogaard, California Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara, Los Angeles County Democratic Party Chair Mark Gonzalez, and Los Angeles County Assessor Jeff Prang.
Gordo currently faces no announced opposition in his run for re-election as Pasadena’s Mayor. The primary is still months away in early 2024.
Gordo was born in Mexico and came to Pasadena as a young child. He attended local public schools and began working at an early age to contribute to his family’s income. Despite facing challenges, including the loss of his mother and the need to support his siblings, Gordo pursued his education and graduated from law school while working full time.
As Mayor, Gordo has worked to address issues affecting the quality of life in Pasadena, including crime prevention, advocating for a living wage, and increasing government transparency. He led the city through the COVID-19 pandemic and overseeing the search for a new City Manager.
Gordo served as the president of the Rose Bowl Operating Company during its renovation. He has advocated against overdevelopment in Pasadena and has made efforts to replace problem liquor stores with affordable housing.
Mayor Gordo resides in Pasadena with his wife Kelly, a teacher in the El Monte Unified School District, and their two children, Michael and Emma.
