The Pasadena Human Relations Commission will hear a presentation on navigating difficult conversations about race and social discord at its meeting Tuesday, Oct. 7.
The Center for Restorative Justice will present at 6:30 p.m. at the Jackie Robinson Community Center, 1020 N. Fair Oaks Ave. The presentation will focus on “Navigating Tough Conversations: Making an Impact in Times of Social Discord.”
The Center describes itself as a place-based organization. It educates communities to address racial injustice through experiential learning and storytelling.
The organization offers workshops where participants engage through conversation and experiences. It also conducts pilgrimages designed to cultivate transformation and healing.
One program is the Pasadena pilgrimage, an immersive excursion that examines the city’s racial history. Participants visit historically significant sites and engage with local historians, storytellers and organizers.
The half-day or full-day program costs $75. It includes light breakfast, lunch and transportation.
The Center for Restorative Justice also offers summer pilgrimages. One focuses on Southern civil rights history and costs $2,650. Another explores Asian American history and costs $2,600.
Book clubs and movie reviews are available. These programs delve into difficult history to foster understanding of racial issues.
The center’s vision statement says it seeks to change systems and narratives. The goal is to imagine a future without racism and white supremacy.
