Pasadena Humane has cut adoption fees to $25 for all dogs six months and older through Sunday, Sept. 13, as a seasonal slowdown in adoptions meets a steady stream of incoming animals, the shelter said in a Sept. 9 press release.

The Pasadena shelter had more than 450 animals in its care, including more than 150 dogs, as of that announcement, counting those available for adoption, pets living with foster families and strays waiting to be reunited with their families, according to Pasadena Humane. Large dogs are among those most in need of adopters, the shelter said.

The shelter lists the regular fee for dogs six months and older at $150.

“In a single day, 48 animals—33 cats and 15 dogs—came into the shelter,” said Chris Ramon, Pasadena Humane’s president and chief executive officer, who called it one of the shelter’s busiest intake days in recent memory.

“Adopting a dog right now not only changes that dog’s life, it creates critical space for the next animal who needs us,” Ramon said in the release.

September often brings fewer adoptions as summer vacations end, schools return to session and families settle back into work and school routines, the shelter said.

All adopted dogs are spayed or neutered, vaccinated and microchipped before going home. Adoptions run daily from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at 361 S. Raymond Ave. in Pasadena on a first-come, first-served basis. Adopters should bring a valid ID, a form of payment and a carrier or a collar or harness and leash, the shelter said. Dogs adopted in the cities where Pasadena Humane provides licensing are licensed for an additional fee on adoption day.

Pasadena Humane is the animal care and control agency for Altadena, one of 12 communities where it provides animal control services. The special follows the shelter’s Hot Dog and Cool Cat Summer promotion, which waived fees for adult dogs and cats July 31 through Aug. 9.

Now through Sunday, Sept. 13, 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily. Pasadena Humane, 361 S. Raymond Ave., Pasadena. For more call (626) 792-7151 or visit pasadenahumane.org. Adoption fee: $25 for dogs six months and older.
