Families Forward Learning Center (FFLC) in Pasadena has appointed four new members to its Board of Directors as the organization continues its work with families in poverty.

The nonprofit announced the appointments of Dr. Antoine Lyonel Carré, Jennifer Jones, Gregory Mena and Bob Niemack this month. All four bring experience in community and business leadership to the board.

The learning center operates two-generation programs designed to help families living in isolation and poverty succeed in school and life.

Dr. Carré brings medical expertise to the board. He completed medical training at UC San Francisco and earned a master’s degree in public health at UC Berkeley. He completed residencies in general surgery at Stanford and Harvard before specializing in plastic surgery and microsurgery at USC.

Jones joins the board with more than 30 years of experience in creative advertising. Her career includes leadership roles at Warner Home Entertainment, 20th Century Fox Licensing and Merchandising, and Fox Home Entertainment. She holds a bachelor’s degree in design and illustration from Cal State Fullerton.

Mena serves as an associate professor of English at East Los Angeles College, where he has taught for eight years. He earned a doctorate in education from Cal State Northridge and a master’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania. He also leads a father engagement program at Mayflower Elementary School in Monrovia.

Niemack, a Pasadena native and longtime resident, works as a filmmaker and storyteller. His 50-year career includes producing, directing, writing and editing documentaries that have aired on major networks. He edited the Oscar and Emmy-winning documentary “Scared Straight!” and has won seven Emmy awards and a George Foster Peabody Award.

The new board members will support the organization’s mission of preparing families for success through educational programs.
