A 50-year-old Pasadena resident was arrested on Friday, January 19 for allegedly threatening a man with a machete in broad daylight, according to Pasadena Police Lieutenant Matt Campeau.
The incident occurred at 9:52 a.m. in the 200 block of North Catalina Avenue and was reportedly captured on video surveillance.
The 59-year-old victim reported that the suspect, identified as Michael Goforth, waved an 18-inch blade machete at him menacingly and made threatening comments, causing him to fear for his life, Campeau said.
Upon arrival, officers found Goforth at his apartment, where he allegedly admitted to possessing the machete and allowed officers to retrieve it.
Goforth was subsequently taken into custody and booked at the Pasadena jail.
Despite the alarming incident, no injuries were reported. The motive behind Goforth’s alleged attack remains unclear.
As of Saturday morning, Goforth was being held in the L.A. Sheriff’s Dept. Inmate Reception Center in Los Angeles on an $80,000 bond.
