Police said a Pasadena family’s New Year’s gathering became violent early Saturday when family members argued and fought, with one man seriously wounded after being stabbed in the back with a kitchen knife by his brother.

The knife attack was reportedly so forceful the knife blade broke off from the knife handle, police said.

Officers were called to the home in the 100 block of North Sierra Madre Boulevard at 4:53 a.m., according to Pasadena police Lt. Anthony Burgess.

The 26-year-old victim was transported to a local hospital, possibly with the knife blade still embedded in his back, in serious but not life-threatening condition, Burgess said.

The victim was reportedly in stable condition.

His brother, Michael Pasag, 29, of Pasadena, was arrested and booked for attempted murder, Burgess said.
