A 37-year-old man charged with stabbing a fellow passenger at a Pasadena Metro station is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday for a hearing to set a preliminary hearing date.

Antonio Olivera, who has remained in custody since his arrest, faces one felony count each of assault with a deadly weapon and assault by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury.

The April 30 appearance in Department H of the Pasadena Courthouse, located at 300 E. Walnut St., will schedule a future preliminary hearing that will determine if there is sufficient evidence for the case to proceed to trial.

Authorities allege Olivera stabbed a man multiple times in the upper body on the morning of April 17 on a pedestrian bridge leading to the Sierra Madre Villa Metro station in Pasadena. The incident occurred around 7:45 a.m.

The victim, whose name and current condition have not been released, was transported to a hospital with multiple stab wounds.

According to investigators, Olivera was wearing a security guard uniform at the time of the attack, though authorities confirmed he was not employed by Metro and was using the transit system for transportation purposes.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department arrested Olivera moments after the incident.

The attack prompted Metro to operate a bus shuttle between the Allen and Arcadia stations while the investigation was underway.

The Sheriff’s Department is leading the investigation with assistance from Metro and Pasadena police. Authorities have encouraged anyone with information about the stabbing to contact the Los Angeles Regional Crime Stoppers Hotline.

No information has been released regarding Olivera’s prior criminal history, possible motive, or relationship to the victim.
