Pasadena Police Chief Gene Harris Honored with Neighborhoods, USA Who’s Who in America’s Neighborhoods Award

On Friday, May 29, 2026, Pasadena Police Chief Gene Harris has been recognized as a recipient of the prestigious Who’s Who in America’s Neighborhoods Award in the Government category by Neighborhoods, USA (NUSA), a national nonprofit organization dedicated to building and strengthening neighborhood organizations across the country.

The award recognizes individuals whose work exemplifies the mission of Neighborhoods, USA by strengthening neighborhood associations, encouraging community involvement in local government decision-making, and fostering productive collaboration between neighborhood organizations, government agencies, and the public and private sectors.

Founded in 1975, Neighborhoods, USA serves as a national network for neighborhood leaders, organizations, and community advocates committed to creating stronger, more connected communities. Through education, networking, and information-sharing, NUSA promotes partnerships that enhance the quality of life in neighborhoods throughout the United States.

Chief Harris was selected for the honor based on his longstanding commitment to community engagement, transparency, and collaborative leadership throughout his more than three decades in law enforcement. A former United States Marine Corps airborne forward observer, Chief Harris has built a distinguished career centered on service, trust, and partnership.

Since becoming Chief of Police for the Pasadena Police Department, Harris has prioritized strengthening relationships between the department and the community through open communication, accessible leadership, and inclusive outreach efforts. Under his leadership, the department has expanded youth engagement initiatives, strengthened community partnerships, modernized communication platforms, and enhanced programs designed to support vulnerable populations.

Chief Harris has also demonstrated compassionate and effective leadership during times of crisis, including coordinating emergency response efforts during a devastating regional fire. Known for his humility and commitment to teamwork, he consistently emphasizes the importance of collaboration between law enforcement and the communities they serve.

Chief Harris holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, a Master’s degree in Organizational Management, and a Master of Science degree in Law Enforcement and Public Safety Leadership. He is also a published author whose leadership philosophy reflects both academic excellence and a people-centered approach to public service.
