A Carson resident was arrested on multiple felony charges after Pasadena police allegedly caught him carrying a loaded 9mm handgun and found an AR-15 ghost rifle, two loaded high-capacity magazines, and body armor in his U-Haul truck.
In a Department statement, Lt. Monica Cuellar said the incident began shortly after officers responded to a report of a U-Haul truck stopped in the street near Claremont Street and Wilson Avenue at 3:54 a.m. on Friday, June 23. They found the driver asleep in the driver’s seat and noticed the truck had been involved in a minor collision.
According to Cuellar, when they woke the driver and asked him to exit the vehicle, officers saw a handgun in his waistband. The driver ran from the officers but was detained after a brief foot pursuit.
Cuellar said officers then searched the U-Haul and discovered the additional weaponry and armor.
Police identified the suspect as 36-year-old Marc Oliver David.
The Pasadena Police Department’s Street Crime Unit conducted follow-up investigations at three locations associated with David but found no additional evidence.
David was booked at the Pasadena Police Department Jail on multiple felony charges, including weapons and narcotics violations and no-bail arrest warrants, Cuellar said.
Online records show David was later transferred to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Inmate Reception Center in Los Angeles.
Pasadena Police Chief Gene Harris said in a statement that his department is committed to neutralizing the impact of illegal guns and gun-related criminal behavior.
“In this case, with body armor, high-capacity magazines, significant criminal history and the precarious circumstances, I am of the opinion Pasadena officers prevented potential catastrophic violence from occurring in our community,” Harris said.
