On Thursday, over a dozen Pasadena Public Works employees, members of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 721, staged a demonstration outside City Hall.
The workers parked their City work trucks in Centennial Square to bring attention to ongoing contract negotiations between their union and the City of Pasadena.
SEIU Local 721 represents over 95,000 workers in Southern California, including those in hospitals, foster care, mental health, courts, law enforcement, libraries, and street services.
The current Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the City of Pasadena and SEIU Local 721 is set to expire on Friday, June 30.
The terms of the dispute are not entirely clear. Some union members have voiced concerns about the union’s negotiating strategy on platforms such as Reddit.
According to Pasadena Public Information Officer Lisa Derderian, the City is actively working to come to an agreement with the workers.
