Pasadena Sports Hall of Fame has unveiled its 2020-2024 class of inductees, recognizing 20 individuals and teams for their athletic achievements and support of youth sports.

Laurence Todd, President of the organization, announced the inductees late last week. The diverse group includes 10 athletes, three coaches, three college teams, and four community supporters who have made significant contributions to Pasadena’s sporting heritage.

Among the notable athletes to be inducted are Stacey Augmon for basketball, Peggy Fleming for ice skating, Lester Towns for football, Darlene Anderson for skating, John Siman for water polo, Payton Jordan, Joseph Richardson, and Jesus Gutierrez for track and field, and Katrina Johnson for track and field.

The coaching category will honor Harvey Hyde for his work in football at Pasadena City College, Dudley Stewart for girls’ basketball at Pasadena High School, and Walter Opp for track and field at John Muir High School.

Three college teams will also be recognized: Pasadena City College’s 1978 and 1984 men’s track and field teams, and Caltech’s 1954 men’s golf team.

Community supporters being honored include the Pasadena Parent Teacher Association for its “Football Circus” event, Walt Butler for his youth sports advocacy, the Pasadena Games for track and field, and Mannie Pineda for sports journalism.

The induction ceremony, themed “A Titled Affair,” is scheduled for May 2025, with more details to be announced at a later date.

Established in 2001, the Pasadena Sports Hall of Fame aims to preserve and honor the city’s rich sports legacy, which includes numerous championship athletes and Olympians.

The organization has awarded over $10,000 in scholarships and financial/equipment grants to local high schools and youth sports organizations since its inception. The Pasadena Sports Hall of Fame provides four grants totaling $1,000 in honor of the Award recipients. A volunteer research team maintains statistics and lists of individuals eligible for induction.

Nominees for the Hall of Fame must have gained significant recognition in athletic competition in California or nationally, or demonstrated substantial support for youth sports activities in Pasadena. Individuals can nominate themselves for consideration.

The nomination process is open to the public, with eligibility criteria and submission instructions available on the organization’s website.
