Pasadena officials and community leaders plan to gather on July 13 to kick off a long-awaited project to revitalize the Arroyo Seco’s trail system. The groundbreaking ceremony, set for 10:30 a.m. at Brookside Park and which is open to the public, marks the beginning of the One Arroyo Trail Critical Linkages Project.

The initiative, a collaboration between the City of Pasadena and the One Arroyo Foundation, seeks to restore approximately 3.5 miles of existing multi-use trails. It aims to connect three distinct areas of the Arroyo, improving trail conditions and enhancing accessibility and user experience in this natural landmark.

“The Arroyo Seco is the crown jewel of west Pasadena, and we’re so excited to break ground on this project to improve miles of well-loved trails in this beautiful natural resource,” said Vice Mayor Steve Madison. He added, “A project of this type is long overdue, so thank you to the One Arroyo Foundation for helping get shovels in the ground.”

The project’s scope includes debris and erosion clearance, improved road crossings, and footbridge construction. Plans also call for the installation of wayfinding signage, trail restoration efforts, and the planting of native species throughout the area.

One of the project’s highlights is the re-opening of the historic Parker-Mayberry Bridge. This small, graceful structure sits beneath the more famous Colorado Street Bridge, offering a unique vantage point for trail users.

The revitalization effort will also create natural seating and learning areas along the trail system. These additions aim to provide a safe, accessible, and enjoyable environment for community members exploring the Arroyo Seco.

Detailed information about the trail improvements and the reopening of the Parker-Mayberry Bridge will be available at the groundbreaking ceremony. Vice Mayor Madison and other community leaders are expected to attend, underscoring the project’s significance to Pasadena residents.

As the One Arroyo Trail Critical Linkages Project begins, it promises to enhance one of Pasadena’s most beloved natural spaces. The initiative reflects a commitment to preserving and improving access to the city’s environmental resources for future generations.
