The Pasadena Unified School District will host its largest ever Science Fest ever on Saturday, April 22 at John Muir High School. The event will feature a wide range of interactive exhibits, hands-on activities, and engaging demos designed to showcase the latest in the world of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).

“This is the largest scale ‘district-wide’ science fest so far and is the largest science fest type event ever organized within PUSD,” said Dr. Warren Skidmore, head of the organizing committee for the event. “It is a free event open to the entire community, aimed toward K-12 students and their families but open to everyone and it will certainly have something of interest to people of all ages and backgrounds.”

The Science Fest is free and open to the public. Students, parents, and members of the community are welcome to attend the event, which will run from 12-5 p.m.

All of the PUSD school sites are participating in the upcoming Science Fest to show how they support STEM learning and how they cover specific parts of the STEM curriculum.

The event aims to inspire students and educate them and their families about the exciting career opportunities related to STEM, environmental and medical fields.

It also highlights the contributions to STEM fields made by under-represented groups in STEM.

At the event, attendees will hear a series of international-level speakers giving talks on a range of topics including science, technology and more.

Because the event will coincide with Earth Day — an event which celebrates the planet Earth and raises public awareness about environmental issues, groups who have aims related to climate observation from space, resource management, recycling, trash management, environmental restoration, conservation, zero carbon transportation and more will also join the Science Fest.

Local elected officials are expected to be in attendance, Skidmore said.

Several Pasadena-based companies and organizations will be showcasing new innovations and technologies at the upcoming event.

“We specifically have groups from Caltech, JPL, SpaceX, Carnegie Observatories, Foothill Transit with zero carbon buses and Huntington Medical Research Institute.”

“However all groups participating will have an emphasis on new technologies and development, so for firefighters, the military, medical groups, etc., they will try to show how new technologies are being employed.”
