The City of Pasadena is set to unveil its latest recreational addition: three new adaptive/wheelchair-accessible pickleball courts at Viña Vieja Park. The grand opening ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, August 15 at 9 a.m.
The Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department will host the event at 3026 E. Orange Grove Blvd., featuring refreshments and speeches from local dignitaries.
USA Pickleball Ambassadors will offer demonstrations and brief instruction for newcomers to the sport.
The project includes three adaptive/wheelchair-accessible courts designed for inclusive play. Additional amenities comprise fencing, benches, and expansion of the existing parking lot to add 14 parking spaces.
New planting and irrigation systems enhance the park’s overall appeal.
Pickleball, a sport combining elements of tennis, table tennis, and badminton, has seen a surge in popularity across Pasadena. The new courts join existing facilities at Jackie Robinson Memorial, Victory Park, Washington Park, and San Pasqual Park.
The Viña Vieja Park project is part of a larger initiative for 12 pickleball courts. The full proposal featured a 900-square-foot restroom and storage building, an 89-space parking lot, a warm-up and practice court, and extensive landscaping improvements.
