The City of Pasadena is urging local homeowners to consider signing up for Earthquake Brace+Bolt program before the deadline arrives Monday.

The Earthquake Brace+Bolt is a grant program that “helps homeowners lessen the potential for damage during an earthquake by offering qualified homeowners a grant for up to $3,000 toward a building code-compliant earthquake retrofit.”

The program was developed by the California Earthquake Authority and the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services.

In addition to an up-to-$3,000 grant, Earthquake Brace+Bolt is also offering a supplemental grant to help homeowners with a household annual income of $72,080 or less pay for a seismic retrofit.

Residents may be eligible to apply for an Earthquake Brace+Bolt grant if they own and live in a house they want to retrofit, live in one of the approved program areas which are designated by ZIP Code and if their house was built before 1980.

Also eligible are residents whose houses have a crawl space beneath the first floor, those who have houses that are built on level ground or a slight slope and those who have not already completed a Brace+Bolt earthquake retrofit.

Registration for the Earthquake Brace+Bolt program has been open since Oct. 18 and it will end on Nov. 29.
