Pasadena Water and Power (PWP) General Manager David Reyes will trade his office for the boxing ring when the Centennial Square Boxing Show returns Friday, Aug. 22.
The 10th anniversary event runs from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Centennial Square, next to Pasadena City Hall at 100 N. Garfield Ave. Promising an electrifying lineup of Olympic-style bouts featuring male and female boxers ages 8 and older from all over Southern California, the event is open to the public and free to attend.
Reyes will compete in one of the bouts to promote mental health and wellness among older adults. He joins eight other competitors from the Villa Parke Boxing Program.
The Villa Parke team includes Marvin Gomez, Jessie Kang, Karl Ford, Adriana Nunez, Horacio Rosales, Christopher Cano, Michael Diaz and Quinn Spear.
Boxing coach Fausto De La Torre praised Reyes’ community involvement.
“He continues to be a positive influence in our community and a role model for our older adults,” De La Torre said. “He is a big advocate for mental health.”
The amateur boxing event follows Olympic-style competition rules and marks a decade of bringing the sport to downtown Pasadena.
The show takes place adjacent to City Hall in the heart of the Civic Center district.
