City’s Firefighters and Police to Mark 25 Years Since 9/11 at City Hall

Twenty-five years after the twin towers fell in lower Manhattan, local members of the same two professions that ran toward the smoke that fateful morning will gather with the Pasadena community at City Hall to remember it.

The Pasadena Fire and Police Departments will host a 25th Anniversary 9/11 Memorial Ceremony at 7:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11, at City Hall Centennial Square, according to the City of Pasadena.

The city says the ceremony will honor and remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and recognize the courage, sacrifice, and service of those who responded that day.

It is Pasadena’s own first responders who will convene. The city has invited the wider community to attend.

The September 11, 2001 attacks killed 2,977 people— among them 343 firefighters. Most died at the World Trade Center in New York, where 2,753 people were killed; 184 died at the Pentagon and 40 near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

The city has summed up the morning in a promise: to remember, to honor, and never to forget.

The 25th Anniversary 9/11 Memorial Ceremony takes place on Friday, September 11, beginning at 7:30 a.m. at City Hall Centennial Square, 100 North Garfield Avenue. The ceremony is open to the public.
