Foothill Unity Center in Pasadena continues to provide food donations to families in need in the Pasadena area and throughout the San Gabriel Valley.
On Tuesday, the center’s group of volunteers came together to hand out food at the center’s parking lot as needy residents drove up, as TV station ABC7 in Los Angeles conducted a virtual telethon to benefit United Way’s pandemic relief fund and LA Regional Food Bank.
The ABC7 report said the LA Food Bank has been helping Foothill Unity Center and the Pasadena community in terms of food donations throughout the years.
Pasadena residents who turn up at the parking lot were each given a box of food, with some picking up boxes for neighbors who are not able to leave their homes. Many residents are not working because of the coronavirus emergency, the report said.
The Foothill Unity Center receives food donations from businesses and other organizations and individuals in Pasadena, including Trader Joe’s, Wendy’s, Great Maple in Pasadena, Wood Ranch BBQ in Arcadia, and 38 Degrees Monrovia, which were among those mentioned in posts on the Center’s Facebook posts Tuesday.
The City of Pasadena Dial-A-Ride team assisted with delivering food boxes to seniors, and nursing students from Azusa Pacific University and Americorp VIP fellows joined community volunteers in distributing greatly needed food during the giveaway.
Foothill Unity Center also posted calls for more donations, as well as a wish list for items that they said would help relieve the stress many residents are now experiencing because of the restrictions currently in place due to the COVID-19 crisis.
Aside from monetary donations and gift cards to grocery stores in the area, the Center was asking for disposable gloves, bags and medium-sized boxes, produce, dairy, meats, breads, personal hygiene products, house cleaning products, rain ponchos and 10×10 canopies.
They were also in need of volunteer drivers to help with the food delivery.
Both the Foothill Unity Center locations in Pasadena and in Monrovia have closed their building interior to public access and postponed all events and activities, but the weekly food distribution will continue through deliveries or at their parking lots.
In Pasadena, Foothill Unity Center is at 191 N. Oak Ave.
