The city’s public work staff and Pasadena Beautiful Foundation will be planting trees at Jefferson Park on April 29 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. in celebration of Arbor Day and the public is welcome to join.
Arbor Day, which started in 1872, is a holiday that encourages people to plant trees, and many communities traditionally take the opportunity to organize tree-planting and litter-collecting events on or around the holiday.
The City selects a different area each year to plant trees on Arbor Day. Jefferson Park is located at 1501 East Villa Street in Pasadena.
Vice Mayor Felicia Williams will join the upcoming tree planting activity.
“I am honored to have trees planted in the Jefferson Park neighborhood for this year’s event,” said Williams. “Maintaining our urban forest can help solve issues of climate change, community, and biodiversity.”
According to Williams, Public Works staff will be providing equipment and will also teach volunteers how to plant and care for the trees.
Public Works will also provide free mulch which will be available for pick up by residents.
The Pasadena Beautiful Foundation will help with volunteers, supplies, and supplying some of the trees through their Tree Fund.
The public can volunteer by contacting the District 2 office at (626) 744-4742 or just by showing up at the location.
Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes and to meet near park restrooms off Monte Vista Street.
