Police Announce Multiple Arrests in Jamal Patterson Murder

The Pasadena Police Department announced the arrest of three people in connection with the Oct. 25 murder of 24-year-old Pasadenan Jamal Patterson.

Patterson was fatally shot just before 10 p.m. in the 1000 block of Summit Avenue. Another person was also shot during the incident.

On Monday, police announced the arrests of Cecilio Hernandez, 24, of Pasadena and 40-year-old Angel Martinez of Phelan. An unidentified 16-year-old male juvenile from Pasadena was also arrested in connection to the shooting.

Additionally, three rifles, five handguns, body armor, ammunition, and other items of evidentiary value were recovered during the execution of the search warrant.

Hernandez has been charged with one felony count of homicide, one felony count of attempted homicide), and one felony count of a felon in possession of a firearm with bail set at $5.1 million. 

Martinez has been charged with six counts related to a felon in possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition. Bail has been set at $1.1 million. 

The unidentified minor has been charged with one felony count of homicide and one felony count of attempted  homicide on the juvenile suspect. He is being held without bail.

The shooting occurred during an increase in local gun violence in Northwest Pasadena over the past two month. 

As police were investigating a shots fired call they received word from a local hospital that two males had arrived at the hospital with gunshot wounds in critical condition. 

Detectives from the Pasadena Police Department’s Robbery / Homicide Unit responded  and immediately began their investigation into the shooting incident. The  investigation led to the identification of multiple suspects connected to a local criminal street gang.  

On December 7, the Pasadena Police Department’s Robbery/ Homicide Unit  executed a search warrant at multiple residences throughout Los Angeles and San  Bernardino counties as a result of their investigation. Law enforcement teams from  several law enforcement agencies assisted with the tactical operation.
