Political Gumbo: Church, Predictions and New York

It’s amazing to see preachers in some parts of the country insisting on opening the doors for church services during the pandemic.

Somebody in the congregation needs to tell those so-called men of God to go kick rocks.

I’m pretty sure the mindset is supposed to be religion saves, not religion infects.

It doesn’t matter what you believe, religion should not kill or make you sick.

Some folks just have to keep passing the plate to make a buck I guess.
Don’t be stupid, stay home.

Numbers: All of the city’s seven fatalities, reported as of Friday, are connected to the city’s long-term health care facilities, according to Lisa Derderian. If you’re working in one of those facilities, the need to follow the proper guideline should be obvious and if the facility where you work is not following proper guidelines, contact the city.

Mentioning numbers: As of Friday, Glendale had 218 cases of COVID-19. That’s 100 more than Pasadena. No idea why the numbers are so much higher there.

Unknown numbers: The virus is also providing us a chance to once again look at class separations in the nation. Poverty-stricken communities are hotspots, and the death rate appears to be extremely high among African Americans. Sadly, the Centers for Disease Control is not keeping the stats, respect to Judy Chu for calling them out. I’m curious as to where testing centers are being placed. How many of them are located in neighborhoods with large black populations?
Hopefully, the pandemic changes our health care system.

More numbers: The truth is we may never know how many poverty-stricken people died or have been infected by the Coronavirus. In New York, for example, officials were not counting probable cases, including cases involving people who died at home without being tested until last week.

More New York: When you consider New York’s Coronavirus outbreak, you have to take into account the high rises and apartment buildings that make social distancing extremely challenging due to all the shared spaces in the buildings: how do you social distance in an elevator?

Don’t forget this is what Gov. Gavin Newsom and some of the Sacramento politicians wanted more of in California pre-Pandemic. It will be interesting to see if Newsom’s tone changes post-pandemic.

The Predicting Game: As far as the people playing Nostradamus on TV, predicting the fatalities will be far less than previously expected, keep in mind these are the same people who told us just a few months ago masks didn’t help. Now Trump wants to reopen things as soon as early next month.

Reopening Pasadena too soon could be more devastating than the initial outbreak. The 1918 pandemic came in three waves. Planning things properly will save lives now and moving forward.

Something else to binge: I am almost finished with “How to Get Away with Murder,” so I am looking for something else to watch. Send me some suggestions.
