Political Gumbo: Push Through The Fatigue And Vote

Published on Monday, October 21, 2024 | 5:21 pm

There is a lot at stake on Nov. 5.

From the White House to Measure PL which would fix the local library, local residents have a lot of choices to make.

Yes I get it, a lot of us are tired, and for good reason.

There used to be an election season that worked something like this; At the beginning of that season candidates declared their intent to run for office, then there was a campaign and finally an election.

Now there is no season.

The next Presidential Election begins on Nov. 6, just as our local elections began all over as soon as the last ones ended.

And then there’s the never ending mail, propositions and ballots, state and local, all of which claim to save us from some terrible fate.

And yes the opponents claim the initiatives themselves will hurt us all and bring us closer to impending doom.

Sadly, we even see it with the Charter Reform initiatives and the library bond measure.

Agendas, dishonest fliers, lawsuits, temper tantrums.

It’s enough to make anyone tired.

But, fatigue does not remove responsibility.

It’s time to cancel the noise.

The only voice that matters when you fill out your ballot is your own.

Ignore the agendas, and do your own research.

And then exercise one of the greatest rights we have as American citizens – vote.

You have the power of choice.

And that choice can set the course of the nation, and in some ways more importantly, the City.

Vote.

Quick add, I got as far from the local election madness as I could a few times this month when I joined some friends for dinner at a few spots in LA.

It was good to get away from it all.

I got to hear Angelo Pagan y La Candela play at one of the salsa nights.

Great band, dig the vibes.

Pagan did his thing locally at the beginning of the year in Pasadena at the No Comment Lounge in Pasadena.

Nights like that definitely allow for a good escape.

We need something like those Salsa Nights locally. Be nice if they could get Angelo and the band back in town too.
