A Pasadena Health Department official confirmed Tuesday that the Tops Drive In #2 on Walnut Street at Allen Avenue has been temporarily closed by inspectors.

Rachel Janbek, Acting Division Manager for the City of Pasadena Environmental Health section, said in an email that Tops was closed yesterday because of a cockroach infestation.

A passersby contacted Pasadena Now after noticing “the lot is roped off, no lights [are] on” at the popular eatery, located at 1792 East Walnut Street in Pasadena.

Tops was inspected late last year when it earned a score of 89. The passing grade is 85. In the December, 2015 inspection, officials observed the restaurant workers were “holding potentially hazardous food at unapproved temperatures.”

The restaurant owners have been a limited time period to eradicate the cockroach infestation and to be re-inspected, and re-permitted.
