Trammell Crow Company has proposed a large three- to four-story research and development facility at the southeast corner of Green Street and Holliston Avenue, triggering community debate ahead of a public meeting on Thursday.
The 93,539-square-foot project, which includes three levels of subterranean parking, would be located immediately adjacent to St. Philip the Apostle Church and school grounds.
“We strongly encourage all members of the St. Philip the Apostle Parish and School community to attend in support of our neighborhood and to voice opposition to this development,” said Gina Cockriel, St. Philip the Apostle School Board President.
The proposed development marks a significant moment for Caltech, as it would reportedly become the first time the institution subleases its land.
Trammell Crow Company will be responsible for developing, constructing, and managing the new building. The project’s proximity to St. Philip’s transitional kindergarten classrooms and playgrounds has raised particular concerns among community members.
A community meeting is scheduled for August 14 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Hameetman Center Multipurpose Room on the Caltech campus to discuss the project.
The Trammell Crow Company has invited residents to share their thoughts on the proposed project, highlighting that “your participation and feedback is important to us.”
Those unable to attend can provide comments via email to jmckennon@trammellcrow.com or by calling (310) 363-4709.
Parking for the meeting will be available at the garage at 370 S. Holliston Avenue.
Meanwhile, the school has encouraged community members to wear St. Philip gear to demonstrate “the strength and unity of our incredible community.”
