Military exercises at the St. Luke’s Hospital site in Pasadena are set to be the subject of a public briefing Wednesday before a City Council committee — though the published agenda discloses no information about which military branch is involved, when the exercises are taking place, or who will deliver the presentation.

The item appears in the agenda’s “Information Only” section without an asterisk, the symbol the city uses to indicate that supporting documents are attached. As a strictly advisory body of the Pasadena City Council, the Public Safety Committee does not have independent authority to authorize, prohibit or set conditions on military training activity within city limits; any policy follow-up arising from the briefing would have to be initiated through subsequent agenda action and would require approval by the full City Council to take effect.

Beyond the item title, the agenda does not list a recommended action or include a fiscal or environmental analysis. The agenda notes that the Public Safety Committee may take action within its authority on any item listed on the agenda as it deems appropriate following consideration and discussion of the matter, and that items on the agenda may not be called in the order listed.

The Public Safety Committee’s members for the current cycle, as listed in the meeting notice, are Vice Mayor Jess Rivas and Councilmembers Tyron Hampton (District 1), Justin Jones (District 3) and Steve Madison (District 6). Assistant City Manager Nicholas G. Rodriguez and Assistant City Attorney Danielle St. Clair are listed as staff to the committee, and Tamer Sabha is listed as the recording secretary.

Members of the public who wish to address the committee on the item are required to submit an online speaker card prior to the start of public comment on the matter. Public comments are limited to three minutes per speaker, and the chair and committee may further limit speaking time if reasonable under the circumstances. The meeting is set to be conducted both in person and by videoconference and teleconference, and language translation services are available by calling (626) 744-4124 at least 24 hours in advance.

According to the meeting notice, the meeting is set to be broadcast live on cable Channel 3 and streamed online through the city’s Granicus media player and through Pasadena Media. Supplemental agenda material received after the posting of the agenda would be posted online and listed as “Supplemental Agenda Material Received after the Posting of the Agenda.”

The Pasadena Public Safety Committee is scheduled to meet at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, June 17, in the Pasadena City Hall Council Chamber, Room S249, in Pasadena. For more information call (626) 744-7311 or visit https://www.cityofpasadena.net/commissions/agendas/.
