[Updated] In a move to encourage water conservation, Pasadena Water and Power is collaborating with Foothill Municipal Water District and other local agencies to host a rain barrel distribution event. The gathering, scheduled for Sunday, November 3, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., will take place at Foothill Municipal Water District’s facility in La Cañada.
According to event organizers, residents are required to pre-order their rain barrels through Rain Barrels International before attending the event. Pasadena Water and Power customers should then plan to pick up their barrels at the event. Pasadena Water and Power is offering a rebate that will fully cover the cost of the barrels for its customers, effectively making them free after application.
The initiative aims to promote sustainable water use practices in the region. Rain barrels, which collect and store rainwater from rooftops, can help reduce reliance on municipal water supplies for outdoor irrigation.
As stated by Pasadena Water and Power, a maximum of two rain barrel rebates are available per household. This limitation is designed to ensure equitable distribution among participating residents.
The rain barrels being distributed are made from recycled plastic and are classified as “food grade.” According to the specifications provided, they come equipped with a solid brass 3/4″ spigot for garden hose attachment and a side brass overflow.
To prevent insect access, each barrel features a 4″ mesh screen riveted to the top. These specifications are intended to provide users with a durable and effective water conservation tool.
While the event is a collaborative effort, rebate policies vary among participating agencies. Only Pasadena Water and Power customers are eligible for rebates covering the full price of the rain barrels, making them free after application.
Customers served by other participating agencies, including Liberty Utilities, Burbank Water and Power, and Glendale Water and Power, are offered a $35 rebate per barrel. This discrepancy in rebate amounts reflects different conservation incentive strategies among local water providers.
The Rain Barrel Distribution Event will be held at Foothill Municipal Water District, 4536 Hampton Road. Interested parties can contact Pasadena Water and Power at (626) 744-4005 for additional information about the program or to add the event to their calendar.
