The 2nd Battalion, 23rd Marine Regiment, recently returned from overseas deployment, will get a Yellow Ribbon homecoming welcome during Pasadena’s Veterans Day celebration on Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2025.
The battalion, adopted by Pasadena in 2013, will be honored at Pasadena City Hall, 100 N. Garfield Ave., from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The program will also mark the 250th anniversary of the United States Army, Navy and Marine Corps.
Associate Justice Eileen C. Moore of the California Court of Appeals, who served as a combat nurse in Vietnam with the Army Nurse Corps, will deliver the keynote address. Former Pasadena Mayor William Paparian, a Captain (CA) Judge Advocate in the California State Guard and a former Los Angeles County Deputy District Attorney, will serve as Master of Ceremonies.
The ceremony will feature a Condor Squadron flyover at 11:11 a.m.. Music will be provided by the Pasadena Scottish Pipes and Drums. Seating begins at 10 a.m., with the formal program starting at 10:30 a.m.
According to the City of Pasadena, the battalion members are described as “local heroes” and will receive special tribute during their homecoming.
Justice Moore’s military honors include the Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm. She is a life member of the Vietnam Veterans of America.
The Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Department is presenting the annual event in partnership with the Pasadena Veterans Committee. The program will also feature free hot dogs, interactive exhibits and activities for guests of all ages.
The event is supported by The Rose Bowl Stadium, the Pasadena Management Association, the American Legion, the Vietnam Veterans of America, and the Martin Severance Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
