Pasadena families now have the opportunity to enroll their children in the Pasadena Unified School District’s comprehensive Expanded Learning Programs for the upcoming 2025-26 school year, with registration currently open.

These innovative programs provide safe, nurturing environments where Pasadena Unified School District students can expand their learning beyond traditional classroom hours while developing essential life skills and building meaningful relationships with peers and mentors.

Year-round support for working families

The Expanded Learning Programs operate during every regular school day, offering crucial support for working parents. Before-school programs begin at least 1.5 hours prior to the start of the regular school day, with specific start times varying by school location. After-school programming continues from dismissal until at least 6 p.m., ensuring comprehensive coverage for families’ needs.

Summer learning opportunities

During summer months, Expanded Learning Opportunities (ELO-P) serve students in grades K-8 District-wide, plus grades 9-12 specifically at John Muir High School. These full-day summer programs operate Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., providing structured learning and enrichment activities throughout the break.

Pasadena Unified School District partners with community organizations to offer specialized summer programs including sports camps, dual language immersion, performing arts, and reading foundations programs, supporting both academic growth and social-emotional development.

More than just childcare

Pasadena Unified School District’s Expanded Learning Programs go beyond simple supervision, focusing on four key areas: expanding academic learning, creating new relationships, providing diverse experiences, and developing practical life skills. This holistic approach ensures students continue growing and learning in supportive environments outside traditional school hours.

District-wide program access

The PasadenaLEARNs Expanded Learning Program is available at 20 school sites across the District, each with dedicated site coordinators to assist families. This program provides before school, after school, and summer enrichment opportunities throughout Pasadena Unified School District.

Priority enrollment and how to register

For the PasadenaLEARNs program specifically, enrollment operates on a first-come, first-served basis, with priority given to foster and homeless youth. Students classified as English Language Learners, foster/homeless youth, or those qualifying for free/reduced price meals have additional options to enroll in the Expanded Learning Opportunities Program sponsored by PasadenaLEARNs.

Applications are available through multiple convenient locations: the Pasadena Unified School District website at www.pusd.us/departments/expanded-learning-programs/homepage, school main offices, or the LEARNs office at your child’s school. Parents can contact site coordinators directly at their school for specific program details and assistance with enrollment.

With registration now open, families are encouraged to secure spots early for these popular programs that serve students from kindergarten through high school, providing comprehensive year-round educational support for Pasadena’s families.
