Individuals claiming to represent a private water company have been knocking on doors, telling residents they hold a permit to test water inside homes—a permit that does not exist, according to Pasadena Water and Power.
The utility issued a fraud alert warning that these individuals are not representatives of the City of Pasadena or PWP. Residents are advised to exercise caution when anyone asks for access to their home.
PWP employees rarely need to enter private residences and do so only through prearranged appointments, according to the utility. Legitimate City employees wear uniforms featuring the City seal, carry an official City identification badge, and typically drive a clearly marked City vehicle.
PWP provides electricity to more than 65,000 customers within Pasadena and delivers water to nearly 38,000 households and businesses in Pasadena and adjacent San Gabriel Valley communities.
A video with more information about this fraud alert is available online. For updated alerts and reports of fraud, visit PWPweb.com/Fraud.
