The Oscar-nominated film “Sinners” dominated the 57th NAACP Image Awards, winning 13 of its 18 nominations during a ceremony at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium.
Saturday’s presentations, hosted by actor-comedian Deon Cole, capped a four-day event that included non-televised virtual ceremonies held Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights.
“Sinners” wins included Outstanding Motion Picture, Outstanding Actor in a Motion Picture for Michael B. Jordan and Outstanding Breakthrough Performance in a Motion Picture for Miles Caton.
Jordan was also honored as the Entertainer of the Year.
Oscar-nominated actor Colman Domingo received the President’s Award for special achievement and distinguished public service and multiple award- winning actress and activist Viola Davis, was honored with the NAACP Chairman’s Award in recognition of “a career defined by excellence, impact, and fearless advocacy … groundbreaking performances in film and television [and] her unwavering commitment to uplifting underrepresented voices.”
The ground-breaking hip hop trio Salt-N-Pepa and DJ Spinderella were inducted into the NAACP Hall of Fame and actor Samuel L. Jackson lead a tribute to the late Rev. Jesse Jackson.
The Image Awards is billed as an annual celebration of Black excellence across a wide array of categories.
The NAACP Image Awards have used Pasadena’s Civic Auditorium intermittently since 1992, and by the 56th awards in 2025 it had hosted the ceremony 15 times, with the 57th set there again last weekend. The Civic has been an on?and?off home base for the show over roughly three decades.
