Pasadena will open its observance of LGBTQ+ Pride Month on Monday, June 1 when Mayor Victor M. Gordo and members of the City Council raise the Pride Flag in front of City Hall at 12:30 p.m.

The brief ceremony at 100 N. Garfield Ave. marks the sixth consecutive year Pasadena has flown the rainbow flag over its seat of government, a tradition that began in 2021.

The flag raising opens Pasadena’s official observance of Pride Month, marked each June nationally in honor of the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in New York City.

Those attending are encouraged to wear colorful attire and join what the city calls a “community rainbow,” per the announcement. The ceremony is free and open to the public.

The flag raising also opens a slate of city Pride Month events at City Hall and neighborhood libraries. They include a “Parenting with Pride” workshop at the Jefferson Branch Library on June 11, a Keith Haring–inspired teen art workshop on June 23, a Pride-themed online book group and a “Pride Crafternoon” on June 27, and a monthlong social-media spotlight on LGBTQIA+-owned Pasadena businesses.

The city’s larger Pasadena Pride Day celebration — featuring live entertainment, crafts and family activities — is set for Saturday, June 13, from 6 to 9 p.m., also at City Hall, with free admission and food available for purchase.
