George Takei, Rebecca Romijn, Tig Notaro and Karim Diané will appear on the float’s replica U.S.S. Enterprise bridge as it travels the 5.5-mile parade route through Pasadena, according to a November announcement by the Tournament of Roses Association.
The lineup bridges Star Trek generations: Takei, 87, portrayed helmsman Hikaru Sulu in the original 1966 series and six films. Romijn plays Commander Una Chin-Riley in the current “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.” Notaro’s Commander Jett Reno appeared in “Star Trek: Discovery,” and Diané stars as Klingon cadet Jayden Kraag in the upcoming “Star Trek: Starfleet Academy.”
The float, built by Pasadena-based Artistic Entertainment Services and designed by former Disney animator John Ramirez, will feature iconic Star Trek landmarks including the locally-recognized Vasquez Rocks, the U.S.S. Enterprise rising above an array of planets, interactive transporters and the Starfleet Academy campus.
“Star Trek 60: Space for Everybody” aligns with the parade’s official 2026 theme, “The Magic in Teamwork,” announced in February by Tournament of Roses President Mark Leavens.
The parade appearance kicks off a yearlong 60th anniversary celebration. Star Trek premiered Sept. 8, 1966, with the episode “The Man Trap.” The franchise now spans multiple television series, films and streaming content across Paramount+.
“Star Trek: Starfleet Academy” premieres Jan. 15 on Paramount+, two weeks after the parade. The series features Holly Hunter as Starfleet Academy’s captain and chancellor, with Paul Giamatti as the season’s antagonist. Notaro and Diané reprise their roles in the new series, set in the 32nd century.
The Rose Parade begins at 8 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026, with an estimated 700,000 to 800,000 in-person spectators and more than 40 million viewers worldwide. It will air live on ABC, NBC, KTLA, Univision and other networks.
