Pasadena drivers will face significant detours this weekend as Huntington Hospital prepares to dismantle a tower crane at its new four-story medical office building on South Fair Oaks Avenue, according to Public Works Director Greg de Vinck.

A full closure of Fair Oaks Avenue between Congress Street and Bellefontaine Street will begin at 1 a.m. Saturday, May 9, and continue through 1 a.m. Monday, May 11. The work will also result in intermittent and extended closures of streets and sidewalks along Fair Oaks Avenue, Fillmore Avenue, and a portion of Edmonson Alley.

Sidewalks on the west side of Fair Oaks Avenue will remain open. All affected properties have been notified, and changeable message signs will be posted in advance in both directions. The full closure will restrict all traffic between Congress Street and Bellefontaine Street. Detours will use St. John Avenue, Pasadena Avenue, Raymond Avenue, California Boulevard, Glenarm Street and Bellefontaine Street.

Fillmore Avenue has been fully closed between Fair Oaks Avenue and Edmonson Alley since Jan. 1, 2026, and will remain closed through Jan. 1, 2027, for the long?term project. The closure restricts all traffic in that segment, though no driveway or property access is affected. Detours include California Boulevard, Fair Oaks Avenue, Raymond Avenue and Glenarm Street. Sidewalks on the north side of Fillmore Street will remain open.

Edmonson Alley will experience a western half closure south of Fillmore Avenue. The alley north of Fillmore Avenue will remain open, while the segment south of Fillmore Avenue will be restricted to northbound traffic only.

Huntington Health said it will manage the project and coordinate internally to ensure no impact on emergency services.
