“One should eat to live, not live to eat.” Â – Moliere.
What the 17th century playwright means by this is that we should focus more on food’s nutritional value rather than its gustatory quality. Real Food Daily combines the two, in a delicious irony only they can whip up.
It is in this scrumptious vein that RFD launches its Seasonal Spring Menu where the worlds of healthy aliments and delicious fare meet in an explosion of leafy, tasty goodness.
Dishes in the menu range from the familiar to the exotic, with choices like:
New Real Food Burger – a black bean and veggie burger with sauteed pepper and onions, lettuce and tomato on a whole grain bun.
Balinese Dream – tangy rolls of grilled tofu, marinated cabbage, carrots, mango, fresh herbs, cashew crumble, all wrapped in marinated collard green with tamarind dipping sauce.
Pura Vida – a mix of marinated laminate kale, wild arugula, chipotle pinto beans, red radish, creamy pimenton dressing with pickled rainbow carrots, and toasted pepitas
Kimchi Maki Roll – an amalgamation of two classics with jade pearl rice, miso horseradish kimchi, avocado, asparagus, red pepper, scallions, sesame seeds with sweet miso dipping sauce.
Caribbean Quesadillas – a lovely dish composed of island coconut lentil puree with baby spinach, caramelized onions, pepperjack cheese, toasted whole wheat tortilla with coconut cilantro creme, mango salsa, and grilled plantains.
Vegans and non-vegans alike will enjoy the wide range of food offered by RFD, even hardcore meat eaters will find themselves pleasantly surprised.
Real Food Daily is a vegetarian and organic restaurant founded by Ann Gentry, a pioneer in the green food movement. Located at 899 East Del Mar Blvd., RFD has won Best New Restaurant and Best Vegetarian Food honors last year in local media.
