A 16-year-old Fontana boy was arrested Monday afternoon after Pasadena police recovered a stolen vehicle and an unregistered handgun in his possession, authorities said.

The incident began at 1:58 p.m. on April 28, when an automated license plate reader (ALPR) flagged a stolen white Kia near Lake Avenue and Corson Street, according to Pasadena Police Lt. Matt Campeau. The vehicle had been reported stolen in Compton by a woman from that city.

Officers, with aerial support from a police helicopter, located the vehicle near Lake Avenue and Villa Street. The suspect was detained without incident as he exited the car. During the arrest, police found a loaded 9mm Sig Sauer handgun, Campeau said.

Detectives believe the stolen car is connected to an armed robbery at a 7-Eleven in the 2700 block of East Colorado Boulevard on April 27. The robbery-homicide unit is investigating.

The suspect, charged with auto theft and illegal firearm possession, was transported to juvenile hall. Police reported no drugs recovered and believe the teen acted alone during the arrest. Due to his age, the suspect could not be interviewed. Authorities are still seeking two suspects linked to the armed robbery.
