Editor’s Note:  According to producers of The Conversation Live, Pasadena Police Chief Gene Harris canceled his appearance on the show’s June 15 episode. The show’s producers said that Harris’s office emailed to say the chief’s schedule had changed and he could not make the interview. According to the producers, a phone call to Harris’s office confirmed that Harris would not be rescheduling. As a result of the cancelation, the premiere episode of The Conversation Live was not aired. The show will resume its season 7 series on July 5, 2023.

The Conversation Live, a hyperlocal talk show that follows current events and pertinent related issues, was to return for its seventh season on Thursday, June 15. The season premiere was to have featured Pasadena Police Chief Gene Harris as its guest.

The show is hosted by James Farr, an award-winning writer, filmmaker and producer who has been covering the Pasadena area for over 15 years.

Farr is known for his in-depth interviews and his ability to engender rapport and confidence with his guests, resulting in candid answers regarding their personal lives and professional careers.

“The Conversation Live,” a 10-episode series, illuminates current events through a local lens, featuring interviews with elected officials, subject experts, and thought leaders.

Notable past guests include Black Lives Matter Los Angeles organizer Dr. Melina Abdullah, former Pasadena Police Chiefs John Perez and Philip Sanchez, and Los Angeles District Attorney Jackie Lacey, among others. The show has been recognized with the Alliance for Community Media Foundation’s Hometown Media Award for “Voter Education” and the prestigious Jeff Adachi Social Justice Award.

Farr is also a contributor on Tavis Smiley’s KBLA 1580 AM programs and a columnist for LA Progressive and Culture Honey magazine.

Each episode of “The Conversation Live” begins with Farr’s signature line, setting the tone for discussions that center on “social justice, restorative justice, equality, and inclusion.”

Farr’s interviewing style seeks to expose the root causes of societal issues, rather than merely addressing their symptoms.

“I am determined,” Farr said in a statement, “to create and maintain dialogues within and across communities that will promote actionable steps followed by sustainable change.”

“The Conversation Live” is produced by Tunnel Vision and Pasadena Media.
