Two Suspects Flee After Attempted Car Theft, Evade Capture

Two masked suspects attempted to steal a sedan in Pasadena early Thursday morning, leading police on a brief pursuit before escaping on the 134 Freeway, according to Pasadena Police Lieutenant Andrea Perez.

The incident began at approximately 1:26 a.m. when police received a 911 call reporting two individuals attempting to break into and start a sedan parked in the 100 block of East Mountain Street, Perez said.

When officers arrived at the scene, the suspects fled to a white mid-size SUV and drove east on Mountain Street before turning south on Marengo Avenue. Officers pursued them.

The suspects then drove south to Orange Grove Boulevard, heading west to South Fair Oaks Avenue.

Because they believed the suspects’ erratic driving behavior was a threat to public safety the  officers terminated the pursuit after approximately 30 seconds, Perez said.

The suspects were last seen entering the westbound 134 Freeway via Marengo Avenue.

According to Perez both suspects were described as men wearing black hoodies, ski masks, and gloves.

Perez said officers later contacted the sedan’s owner, who confirmed the break-in attempt.
