A major heat wave is set to grip Pasadena beginning today, with temperatures climbing toward triple digits by the weekend, forecasters said.
The National Weather Service in Oxnard reported Tuesday that highs will reach 89 degrees under sunny skies, with light north winds shifting west-southwest in the afternoon. Overnight lows will fall to 64 degrees.
Wednesday will bring similar conditions, with highs near 88 degrees and calm winds. By Thursday, temperatures will rise to 92 degrees, marking the start of a sharp warming trend.
Forecasters said Friday’s high will reach 95 degrees, followed by weekend readings near 98 degrees. Monday will remain hot, with highs around 97. These temperatures are 10 to 15 degrees above normal for late September.
No precipitation is expected during the forecast period. Winds will remain light in Pasadena, though weak offshore flow could develop at times. Advisory-level gusts are possible in mountain areas, but the city itself will see only breezes.
The weekend outlook calls for clear skies and overnight lows in the upper 60s to low 70s, offering little relief from the heat. Residents without air conditioning are urged to take precautions.
Local impacts include heightened risk for outdoor activities and community events scheduled during peak afternoon hours. Pasadena’s dense neighborhoods may feel the heat more intensely due to the urban environment.
The National Weather Service said heat advisories or warnings are likely later this week. Officials recommend staying hydrated, limiting outdoor activity during the hottest hours, and checking on vulnerable residents.
Looking ahead, forecasters expect well-above-normal temperatures to persist into the first two weeks of October, with little relief in sight.
