Pasadena police officials reported 12 vehicles were broken into at an apartment complex just after 3 a.m. this morning, with objects stolen from at least 11 vehicles.

According to Lt. Chris Russ, a female resident of an apartment complex located on the 1000 block of E. California Blvd. reported she heard someone breaking glass inside the building’s subterranean parking garage.

When officers arrived at the complex, they found several vehicles broken into.

Among the items presumed to be stolen included electronic goods, such as navigation units and portable music devises.

No other information was made available and no suspects were reportedly arrested. There were also no injuries reported.

Russ urged all residents to take extra care in protecting personal items stored in vehicles, as auto theft may occur anywhere, including a gated subterranean parking garage commonly found in apartment complexes in and around the city.

One tip Russ offered to vehicle owners is to leave no evidence behind of valuables stored within the car or truck.

For example, if storing an electronic item, such as a portable navigation unit or music player, Russ said vehicle owners should make sure no evidence of such goods are left visible, including cradles with suction cups attached to windshields or dashboards.

Oftentimes, even if the main item is safely stored in a glove compartment or trunk, a potential thief may infer the valuable item is somewhere in the car if the cradle or any other related accessory is left openly visible.
