Wintry Weather Predicted for Friday Night’s Holiday Tree Lighting at Pasadena City Hall

Chilly temperatures are expected on Friday evening during the City’s holiday tree lighting event, which features live entertainment and a special appearance by jolly ol’ Santa Claus before Mayor Victor Gordo flips the switch to light the 21-foot tree.

According to data from the National Weather Service, the weather will drop to 50 Friday night and there is a 30 percent chance of rain.

The holiday tree lighting ceremony at the City Hall will run from 5 to 7 p.m.

Mayor Gordo will light the city’s official tree at 6 p.m.

The city’s original plan was to feature performances by local groups, including Pasadena’s Afterschool Adventures Program, Rosebud Academy choir, Willard Elementary’s Rising Stars, Pasadena LEARNs, and Elements Dance Space at the event but due to the chilly weather, the only group that will be performing at the tree lighting ceremony is the Rosebud Academy choir.

The free celebration, which will be hosted by retired police lieutenant Rodney “Rodney D” Wallace and retired sergeant Glen Thompson will feature crafts provided by Armory Center for the Arts as well as light refreshments.

At the event, the Pasadena Fire Department will collect donations of new, unwrapped toys, sports equipment and gift cards as part of its annual Spark of Love Toy Drive.

The donations will benefit local underserved children and teens, according to the city.
