The brand-new 2024 Kia EV9 is making waves in the electric vehicle market, both for its spacious size and its significance in the industry. This three-row electric crossover SUV surpasses even the Telluride (up to now Kia’s largest SUV) in dimensions, solidifying its position as Kia’s largest offering. Beyond its physical presence, the EV9 is a practical and spacious family vehicle that comes with a much more attractive price tag compared with other three-row electric options.
While the base model’s affordability is certainly enticing, the EV9’s range of trim levels caters to a wide spectrum of electric SUV enthusiasts. One of its standout features is the generous interior space, comfortably accommodating adults in all three rows – a rarity in many SUVs.
The EV9 also impresses with its range and charging capabilities, impressive for a vehicle of its size. Depending on the model it can travel over 300 miles on a single charge under certain conditions, and its fast-charging ability allows for a 10% to 80% battery replenishment in just 24 minutes with a quick charge facility.
The Kia EV9 offers a range of trims to suit different preferences and budgets: Light, Wind, Land and GT-Line, with the Land AWD model I tested sitting near the top of the lineup. This trim level highlights Kia’s approach of packing in features as standard rather than relying on extensive option lists. The Land trim’s interior includes heated and ventilated seats for the first two rows and a driver’s Relaxation Mode complete with a power-extending leg rest. The SynTex leatherette upholstery looks great and has a touch like leather.
Adding to the interior’s appeal is the floating center console, which serves as both a functional and aesthetic centerpiece. It features adjustable cupholders with a retractable cover, housing the wireless-charging pad alongside essential controls such as camera activation, hill descent control, and auto hold. While the console’s storage cubby is compact, this design choice accommodates a clever pop-out bin and tray table for second-row passengers.
The tech offerings in the EV9 Land are also impressive, featuring a premium 14-speaker Meridian audio system that delivers rich sound throughout the cabin. Safety and convenience are enhanced by a camera-based digital rearview mirror, blind-spot monitoring cameras, and a comprehensive 360-degree camera system. The interior ambiance is further elevated with adjustable multicolor ambient lighting, allowing occupants to customize their environment.
On the exterior, the 2024 Kia EV9 Land models include cube-projection LED headlamps and Kia’s innovative digital-pattern grille lighting; however, opting for matte paint options like the Ivory Silver Matte removes the digital-pattern grille. Unique to the Land trim are triangular-styled 20-inch wheels that manage to be both unconventional and stylish.
The EPA estimates the range for the EV9 Land at 280 miles on a full charge. My experience was that the EV9 seemed to sip the electricity. The 280 miles felt like they lasted longer than other EV vehicles I’ve driven. It’s plenty peppy too. The SUV seemed to glide down the road with quick acceleration for passing or entering the freeway.
The cabin was comfortably quiet with road noise kept to a minimum. It seemed cavernous, with comfortable and roomy seating in all three rows. It’s a great vehicle for family outings or game day equipment.
Somewhat futuristic, with a whole lot of room, the all new 2024 Kia EV9 Land is the whole package.
