The 7th American Black Film Festival Honors announced it will celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Altadena’s Black community during the upcoming ABFFH awards ceremony. The event will take place on February 17 at the SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills and recognize both local pioneers and entertainment industry achievements.
“The community of Altadena embodies what we celebrate at the American Black Film Festival – strength, solidarity and commitment to excellence,” said awards production company NICE CROWD CEO Jeff Friday and President Nicole Friday.
“By honoring the enduring spirit of this historic community, we aim to showcase Black achievement, inspire creativity, and foster unwavering support for a vibrant cultural future. This tribute is a testament to perseverance and collective effort, and we are proud to uplift Altadena’s story as a source of inspiration for generations to come.”

Pets of the Week at Pasadena Humane
“Red One,” a Christmas-themed action comedy starring The Rock, grossed $34 million this weekend to lead all films in North America, according to industry estimates released Sunday.
It was a disappointing total for a film whose budget reportedly was well north of $200 million. The Amazon MGM Studios release also stars Chris Evans and features J.K. Simmons, Lucy Liu and Kiernan Shipka.
“Venom: The Last Dance,” which spent its first three weeks atop the domestic box office chart, slipped to second place with $7.3 million, Comscore reported.
“The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” was third with $5.4 million Friday through Sunday at theaters in the United States and Canada.
The Hugh Grant-starring horror film “Heretic” was fourth with $5.1 million in its second weekend, followed by “The Wild Robot” with $4.3 million in its eighth weekend.
Rounding out the top 10 domestic releases were “Smile 2” ($2.9 million), “Conclave” ($2.8 million), “Hello, Love, Again” ($2.32 million), “A Real Pain” ($2.3 million) and “Anora” ($1.8 million).
This weekend’s overall three-day box office haul was estimated at $73.6 million. The year-to-date total is $7.079 billion — down 11.1% from the figure at this time last year, according to Comscore.
