Architectural Legacy Tours Return to Showcase Pasadena’s Architectural Gems

Bring your holiday guests on two historic walking tours this season
Published on Dec 10, 2024

Pasadena Heritage is bringing back its Architectural Legacy Tours on Saturday, December 28th, offering residents and their holiday guests an opportunity to explore the city’s rich architectural history. The nonprofit organization will conduct two distinct, fully narrated walking tours featuring some of Pasadena’s unique architectural treasures, each available at both 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. time slots.

The Historic Churches of Pasadena Walking Tour will guide participants through the Playhouse Village, showcasing architecturally significant churches, each with its own unique architectural style and rich history. Experienced docents will lead visitors on a guided walking tour filled with a wealth of architectural details and holiday decorations to enjoy.

The Hillcrest Neighborhood Walking Tour highlights one of Pasadena’s most beautiful neighborhoods, featuring grand mansions and notable Craftsman homes, including the Freeman House designed by Arthur and Alfred Heineman, and the Culbertson House and Blacker House, both designed by Charles and Henry Greene.

Each tour will last between 2 and 2.5 hours. Ticket sales are now live, with complete information available at pasadenaheritage.org.

The day’s events will conclude at the Blinn House with a special documentary screening at 4:00 p.m., diving deeper into the story of First United Methodist Church (FUMC), which is featured during the Historic Churches walking tour. Filmmaker Eric Dyson will be present for a post-screening Q&A session.

The Oak Knoll subdivision, which includes the Hillcrest area, was developed to rival the wealthy neighborhoods of Orange Grove and the “West Side” (San Rafael and Linda Vista), with estate-size lots specifically intended for custom home development.

Founded in 1977, Pasadena Heritage advocates on behalf of historic resources, educates the public about local history and the benefits of preservation, provides referrals and consultations to those restoring historic buildings, and demonstrates quality restoration through its own preservation projects. The organization’s 1,000-plus household members are drawn from Pasadena and neighboring communities throughout Southern California.
